This is excellent. I love your writer's voice, and I think your John and Teyla are fantastic.

Thank you!

This story just made my day! Completely hilarious, and all the off-kilter but recognizable versions of the Mensa AU characters were terrific. Some of the high points were: John's soul patch, which made me laugh hysterically every time it was mentioned, Sumner being alive, cranky and knitting, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Explosives, Teyla putting her arm around John at the movie night, and pretty much any of the times people were playing (or attempting to play) footsie. *does a dance of joy*

Thanks! That's one of the reasons I like AUs--license to be even more goofy with the characters than normal. :-)

This is genius! I loved this so much! Please, please write more in this AU. The characterizations were dead-on. I love how no matter how different things were in this AU, the essential character of each person was still the same. Teyla was reserved and yet fierce. John was snarky and emotionally inept; Ronon was still so Ronon. Lorne, Sumner (the knitting was hilarious), everyone. Incredible job fleshing out the characterizations. John's cluelessness and inability to talk about emotions or general "never see it coming" was perfect. I adored his POV, every bit of it. His terrorizing of Eldon and his other assistant, his indulging of his geeky and dorky side (shout out to his Nintendo DS Lite addiction even), the running feud with "pigeon perv" Zelenka (LOL!!!!!!!), his wandering gypsy childhood, his loving to fly all seem perfectly John despite being so different. You've devised so many fascinating, thoughtful and original possible scenarios for this AU: the Athosians as imperialists (30 colonies-WHOA), the gender role reversals, Satendans and polyamory (Keller's reaction was so her), Sumner's knitting obsession (threatening John with the needle over the fun fur comment-LOL!), John trying to be cool, Katie and Rod's sexless relationship (he can't get any in any reality), Teyla as Runner, the Sex, blood, bombs and the city gang (LOL AGAIN)....ALL of it. Possibly one of the funniest stories I've read in the fandom. The comic timing was perfect. I had way too many favorite parts to list but feeding John and his MRE collection, the running tave java joke, Teyla's version of footsie, the old yawn and drop the arm move, John as the girl, his video will, the Mensa society, Lorne teasing John over having all his roleplaying characters being girls (John is very comfortable with powerful females), restraining order Nancy, the I never game with Katie and Sam, John being convinced Teyla was trying to kill him, the Athosians helping the special ed earthlings... all of it. Please, please, please write more in this wonderful world you've created. I can't praise it and you enough.

Thanks! I don't know if I'll ever revisit this 'verse, but you never know...I never did get Teyla's POV on most of this.

About the Athosians--I didn't mean to imply that they were necessarily imperialist, but that spreading their people across many worlds was a survival strategy against the Wraith. Since the Athosians we see in canon seem to be down to just Teyla's village (what's left of it) I thought it would be an interesting reversal to have them as a large and influential society on whom the expedition is dependent instead of vice-versa.

Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard at this one. This was BRILLIANT! Thank you so much!

God, the title alone! Love it.

Thanks! Titling this mess was actually one of the hard parts. :-)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is so much more than I ever expected and was absolutely wonderful! I was pleasantly surprised to see that you opted for John/Teyla as a pairing - I know I listed a huge variety and was curious to see what my Santa was going to go for. Wonderful to see John/Teyla.

There is so much I really, truly loved about this. I love that despite this being a Mensa!au, the characters themselves are still recognizable. John is still utterly clueless and reticent when it comes to his feelings. Teyla is still silent and strong. John and Rodney are still BFFs and Ronon is well... Ronon. Teyla's little Coven of women is an awesome addition. I love how they threaten John in order to make sure he treats Teyla right - despite his utter cluelessness. Great use of Keller and Kanaan. Love the nod to Nancy as well.

Teyla's idea of courtship is terrific. I love that you hit on the Pegasus culture thing and how different it is from Earth. I love Sumner and his knitting fad, and how John is consistently called a girl, and yet, he seems to have such reverence from them and their capabilities. Love that he finally gives in to Teyla teaching him how to fight, and the will and his feud with Zelenka. And you use Eldon! The subplot with Ronon/Melena/Keller is fascinating. I like that John is aware that something is going on with Teyla, but that he just doesn't know who to ask to get the answers he needs. His jealousy of Kanaan is fantastic. The apology from Teyla and his apology to her are fabulous.

Everything works just so well together. I adore the humor you inject in this and how you switch back and forth between the present and the past, telling us Teyla's story and John's and their interactions with each other and Atlantis and what is driving them.

Thank you so much for this wonderful, wonderful fic.

You're welcome! Funnily enough, of all the pairings you listed, John/Teyla was the only one I felt comfortable writing, especially since I've never seen the later seasons of SG-1. That, plus I noticed you're a member of mensa_au, basically gave me the concept. I'm so glad that you liked it!

Oh wow, you had me laughing and laughing, but then one exchange right at the end had me honestly tearing up.

"It was hard, to learn to think again beyond the next day and the next meal, to rely upon others and let them rely upon me. It was hard to admit...to imagine...I have wanted this for some time, John, but I did not know how to say it to you, or whether it was even possible. If you would want it. If I was whole enough to have it."

I just want to hug her, so badly.

This is fantastic. I love how canon is twisted and turned sideways - the Genii waking the Wraith. Ladon and Sora defecting. Ronon and Melena taking out Kel. John's crazy upbringing. Teyla-the-runner and the slow-burning romance. Especially Teyla. I *love* stories where she's socially awkward.

Thank you! All I had to work with on Mensa!Teyla was Rod's line that she's hard to talk to, so I decided to take that to its logical extreme. I'm glad it worked for you!

This is so made of awesome I don't even know where to begin. Just...it was hilarity INCARNATE, dude. Ronon and Melina trying to get clueless geeky Keller to join them in a menage a toi! Rod and Katie as the most sexless couple in Atlantis! *snerks into drink AGAIN at the thought* The Athosians treating the Atlantians like the social retards that they are. The Genii being the ones to wake the Wraith. Crazy knitting Sumner! Zelenka the pervy pigeon lover! And awkward, girly, clueless yet lovable John flailing about while Teyla attempts to court him. Wonderful! Just wonderful! *hands you internet in your favorite color* You win!

I do? YAY! ::dances all around::

Bravo !! This was amazing and hilarious. I love your take on the characters. Summer knitting had me howling with laughter. It's wonderful to find a story so orginal, humorous but yet true to the characters. I loved every single thing about it. Thanks for a fantastic read.
Jan. 2nd, 2009 11:37 am (UTC)
Thank you for reading it!

I loved this even more than John loves tavajava. I wish I could offer something more constructive, but right now I'm stuck in *flail* mode.

Thank you!

It's adorable and clever and full of heart.

Thank you.

John being "all man" by Athosian standards delighted me. John being all man by his standards was even funnier.

Rod sounded like Rod. Actually, I could hear everyone's voices in my head as I read. That dialogue was such a treat! :D

Also, Sumner turning to knitting, and that being what made him calm? AWESOME. He embraced his crazy and still remained him.

Thanks! Sumner's yarn habit was totally random inspiration, but it was too much fun to leave out. :-)

I have to go to work, but DAMN YOU, I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. Haven't even finished the story!

More comments to come when I actually get to the end. (Half an hour on a Monday morning is vastly insufficient to read a 35K story.)

Right, so that took up the better part of my night, but it was WORTH IT a dozen times over! I loved the crazy-insane tone of the narrative, the way everything's just that little bit more whacked-out in this AU version of Pegasus, and, of course, the John/Teyla. Plus, I enjoyed all the little nudges you got in about the things in the regular show and just how cool they could have been. Satedan Polyamory FTW!

Wonderful story, John so is the girl, and I loved Teyla's little smiles.

Thank you! Glad to know it was worth coming back to. :-)

*flailiness of glee, GLEE I tell you*

Where to start? That it made me LOL at least five times? That John remains John, and Teyla Teyla, even though their backstories are incredibly different? That I love the whole Keller-Ronan-Malena subplot? That Rod is bearable when he's trying to get John to behave? That I looooooove this story? Yeah, that'll work. *g*

Thank you! I have such a hard time writing Rod, but my love for McKays in any form is so great that he ended up being a pretty important part of this fic.
Dec. 22nd, 2008 02:00 am (UTC)
fabulous!! Thank you so much. I haven't laughed so hard in ages. An Atlantis version of a comedy of manners. :)

Thank you!

Holy crap, I am crying right now from laughing so hard. And I had to take breaks in the middle just so I could breathe. This is entirely, completely awesome and hilarious and sweet. Brilliant.
