I think you win at life. :D That was absolutely amazing and hilarious, and I can't even begin to quote my favorite parts because I'd be here all night. Definitely one of the best SGA fics I've read in a long time.

This was too awesome for words. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the humor was great. Socially awkward John was so right on and well done, and it so fits Sheppard's character. I just loved this whole AU world that you fleshed out. :) I'm be smiling at the jokes in this for a while. Also, I loved the part where John was thinking Ronon was an adulturer ("manwhore" LOL). :)

I've never been able to read AU's, I mean what's the point?
But this? Was one of the best fic's I've read in a while. Funny without being crack.
Thanks for sharing such a great fic!

Normally, I avoid john/teyla (or john/elizabeth, but that is a tale for another day), but I'm so glad I took a deep breath and dived in, you had me hooked from the very beginning! MENSA!John, with his batshit insane mother, and his complete and utter inept social skills was so charming; I love that Atlantis kind of just accept him the way he his (albeit with much eye rolling and sarcasm). The same kind of people that bring home all the strays, and in their knitting, polyamorous way, allow Teyla the space to get to the point where she could approach John, in her ninja, meal bringing way. they so totally deserve one another.

Thanks! I don't usually write this pairing myself, so I'm glad it works for people!

Oh, this was such fun. Seriously, some of the moments had me giggling long after I closed the tab -- like, I was driving home not long after finishing and just busted out laughing thinking about Teyla attempting to play footsie with poor, paranoid John. Hi-larious. Among the other things I loved: Satedan polyamory (\o/!), Keller and her eyes, John trying to be Johnny Cash and happily living off MREs, Teyla being the guy and trying a reach around, John getting drunk and convincing everyone he had sex with Rod (ahahahaha), and the wonderful cultural misunderstandings and fumblings towards the lovely ending. So enjoyable!

This was awesome! I love Sumner's knitting, and the tavajava, and John being delusional/clueless and the Athosians protecting the retarded Atlantians. Bravo!

Awesome story. Hilarious. Some parts of the story had me really laughing out loud. I love the way you told it from John's POV. Too funny. Love your changing of the characterization of John and Teyla, yet it was still essentially them. Love your characterizations of the other characters too. Who would of thunk it about Ronon and his wife and Keller? *laughing* John's reaction was too hysterical to that whole situation. Well, John's reaction to everything in general was hysterical. He determines from Teyla's intent to feed him food or to make sure he eats to her trying to kill him. OMW, too funny. And Sumner's new hobby too funny. There just so many things to love about this story.

Cheers to you!!

Holy crap, this is made of awesome! Also, of crack. And that is actually a compliment, since I'm a crack whore. LOL. I love Sumner and his knitting, John being called a girl all the time and the whole Keller/Ronon/Melena thing. And, on a noncrack note, thanks for giving us a real reason for Teyla to be the "scary" one Rod said she was. This just made my day!

Thanks! :-)

Here by a rec and I just spent most of last night and this afternoon reading it. This was a ton of fun, with the footsie and the reacharound and the clique of women with guns. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

This was awesome! Hilarious, touching, oddly painful (oh, John), sweet and just all around good times. I adore this interpretation of the Mensa AU!

Ok, that was hysterical. The Teyla/John was engaging and funny, but the winning moment for me was the Never Have I Ever Game solely to torment Katie, following up on the fantastic running gag that Rod and Katie's relationship being just as 6th grade as Rodney and Katie's in canon. Oh, John, you're a ridiculous drunk, but you aren't stupid.
Jan. 8th, 2009 05:33 pm (UTC)
I never bought that Rodney was ready to marry Katie when we'd never seen them kiss without outside intervention. AUs are a great way to air grievances, aren't they? :-) Thanks for reading!

Oh, wow, I LOVED this. I can tell already that it is one of those stories that is going to follow me around for days - both in terms of story telling, characters, and scenes, but also in the way you've explored culture and gender construction and general cluelessness (Oh, John - yes, this is him exactly - without his flyboy persona and gun to hide behind, his total cluelessness and shines like a goddamn beacon).

Also, I'm pretty sure the italics police are going to come and get me.

Loved it. LOVED IT.

Thank you! I usually have trouble writing John, so I'm glad you found him plausible.
Jan. 10th, 2009 06:02 am (UTC)
No surprises here, but oh my God, this was funny. And I have to admit, I think I've fallen for your Mensa!Sheppard. He is so out there and so dysfunctional, and yet still so sweet (except when he's not, "I wasn't serious" -- "And it worries me that we didn't know that"). I love Teyla's confused pursuit of him and his confused reaction. Best of all, your explanation for John's oddball personality, how his mom took off with him and dragged him through social situations that no one could cope with, or use as a template for normal relations.

Thank you. This rang true even as I laughed all the way through it.
Jan. 10th, 2009 06:31 am (UTC)
Thanks, Icarus. You know your praise means a lot to me. :-)

I actually wasn't originally going to mention much about John's mom, other than that she raised him (as I developed a complicated personal canon for John's family after watching "Outcast") but then I realized that it was too perfect a detail to be a throw-away joke. What I realized from the beginning is that the reason I don't like most hetfic is the characterization, so I decided, why not write it with the two most dysfunctional characters possible? I'm just lucky my recip likes AUs. :-)
