Author's Notes: pipisafoat, you were very open and encouraging in your request, so I truly hope this is something you enjoy. Many thanks to my support team who shall go unnamed for now.
Summary: After tragedy strikes, Rodney's friends watch as he tries to do everything in his power to find a way to set things right. Sometimes the lengths Rodney McKay would go to on behalf of John Sheppard amazed even him; especially when those lengths included not being able to tell a single person about what he'd done.

OMG IT'S HUGE. *dives in headfirst*

SANTA THIS IS THE BEST PRESENT EVER! Fantastic pairings I love, fantastic sciencey-babble I love, fantastic everything. And Sam and Daniel on top of all that! (I like to think that a few years down the line, Danny'll figure it all out and then get pissy that Rodney didn't ask a linguist to invent the language, because really, his grasp of alien grammatical structure was just horrendous - never mind the fact that Daniel's entire department has been studying it for years now to learn what they can about the Nerin's way of life.)

Seriously? My request was so open because I didn't know what I really wanted, but you managed to deliver exactly what I didn't know I needed to read. Faaaaaaaantastic! A thousand cookies and the internets, all for you!

Whoa! Plots upon plots!

I didn't see it coming - this had me going, "Whaaa-? Holy Crap, really!?"

Excellent!

Oh, wow. Wow. I did not see John's twist coming XD When the Nerin was introduced, I suspected - and was hopeful - that Rodney had his hand in that. You did a fantastic job creating a seed of doubt by using other people's point of views on Rodney and his actions. I suspected, but I wasn't sure, not until Sam noticed Rodney's triumphant smile. Even then, I had no idea how he did it. Rodney is badass.

There were no words how happy the reunion scene made me, and of course John would figure out Rodney's connection to the Nerin. Everyone was so happy! N'aww. And, of course, Rodney's confession and John's teasing ♥ ♥

Fantastic job, this was amazing.

What a wonderfully plotty genius (both Rodney's and John's) of a story! :-D

This is such an awesome, epic story. I love a lot about it -- Rodney's response to the news, all the great appearances by the expedition members, John's certainty that Rodney would come after him, their twisty plots, Ronon punching trusting Rodney. It's just all-over awesome and I loved it a lot.

This...this is fucking brilliant! I was suspicious of Nerrin and Rodney's actions, but John and his plan - WOW - I didn't even see that coming!!

Pure magic! :D

"Sam,

When does the Daedalus get back?

Who was with Sheppard when it happened?

Do Teyla and Ronon know?

RM
"

More importantly, did anyone run an analysis on the chemical composition of the ashes? If so, what were the results? If not, why not?

Physicists *sigh* - can't think outside their own field!

Will continue reading now, basking in the feeling that for once, I've got one up on Rodney and Sam.

This was wonderful! There were just enough clues to let me know that *something* was up - including Sam's overly blithe assumption that just because Rodney's subQ was in Vancouver, Rodney himself was there too - without giving everything away. I was still amazed and delighted by the sheer scope of Rodney's scheme. (In retrospect, his over-the-top speech in the Gateroom about the evils committed by the Tau'ri in the Pegasus Galaxy deserves an Oscar.) And *then* John topped Rodney by revealing that he'd *intentionally* faked his death - well, usually John's the one who doesn't see it coming, but in this case it was me.

It just adds to the delight that when Sam and Daniel finally figure out what Rodney's done - which they will - not only will he be out of reach of retribution, but he'll also almost certainly win a Nobel for his discoveries.

Great story! Loved what Rodney did to get Atlantis--and John--home to Pegasus :)

Rodney is SO DEVIOUS. I knew he was faking giving up, but after a while, when he didn't set his plan into motion, I began to believe he had given up.

I loved the John/Rodney reunion (and Rodney hugging Lorne when they found John's note on the wall!) and the way Rodney explained his plan to John and how they kept touching each other while they talked.

This is my second reading (or 3rd?) of this wonderful story. Your depictions of the characters was marvelous and dead on. I have tremendous love for the plot and the twists, but what I'm really happy about is how brilliant Rodney is in this. For being the most intelligent person in 2 galaxies! His brilliance is rarely shown, at least not to the extent he should be capable of. I hope you will continue to write more in this fandom
